A Semi-parametric Control Function Approach to Estimating Causal Effects of Environmental Factors on Life-Cycle Health Outcome

چکیده

I specify an econometric model to estimate the causal effects of environmental factors on individuals’ life-cycle health outcome, and outline a semiparametric control function approach to test and correct for the possible selectivity bias that may arise due to endogenous choice of residence by individuals. I show how to map Union Army Sample data to elements of this model in practice. JEL Classification: C34, I12, J61, N31

Principles of assessment and improvement of construction systems environmental sustainability in Iran (By Life cycle Numerical Parametric Measurement Approach)

Abstract Today, due to the rapid growth of population, development of the construction industry is a necessity. All around the world, new subjects such as sustainable development, environmental pollution, conservation of resources, and reduction of CO2 emission have become the most important research topics among the scientific societies. In recent years, especially after 1997, new tools were i...

Bayesian Regression Tree Models for Causal Inference: Regularization, Confounding, and Heterogeneous Effects

This paper develops a semi-parametric Bayesian regression model for estimating heterogeneous treatment effects from observational data. Standard nonlinear regression models, which may work quite well for prediction, can yield badly biased estimates of treatment effects when fit to data with strong confounding. Our Bayesian causal forests model avoids this problem by directly incorporating an es...

Determinants of Life Expectancy in Eastern Mediterranean Region: A Health Production Function

Background Determinants of health or health production function in health economics literature constitute noticeable issues in health promotion. This study aimed at estimating a health production function for East Mediterranean Region (EMR) based on the Grossman theoretical model.   Methods This ecological study was performed using the econometric methods. The panel data model was used in order...

A New Approach to Hierarchical Data Analysis: Targeted Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Cluster-Based Effects Under Interference

Estimating the impact of exposures occurring at the cluster-level is of substantial interest. Community randomized trials are often applied to learn about real-world implementation, sustainability, and direct and spill-over effects of interventions with proven individual-level efficacy. Likewise, the literature on the impact of neighborhood exposures on health and well-being continues to grow. ...
